Dear collegues, this is my post about the decade 2000-2010.

The 2000s

1) Thinking of the first decade of the 2000s, it is my opinion that there were only few positive events that have marked this time:
  1. the dreaded millennium bug did not happen;

  2. the euro enters into European currency in 2002;

  3. in 2009, in USA, elections were won for the first time by a not-white president, Barak Obama: his election was greeted with enthusiasm all over the world as a symbol of democracy;

  4. the spread of the Internet which allowed faster communication among people around the world.
There were, instead, many tragic events all over the world: natural events such as a violent tzunami, that devastated Asian coasts. It was considered one of the greatest natural disasters in the history. Another one, was Hurricane Katrina, that swept the southern United States, completely devastating the city of New Orleans.

There have been many other tragic events caused by man, for example the wars in the warmer parts of the planet: Afghanistan, Iraq, Darfur, Gaza, Israel, etc., the crisis of the new economy, and so on.
The most memorable event was the felling of the twin towers in 2001, by Islamic terrorism, led by Bin Laden: the fear of terrorism spread around the world and continues today.
2) In the world of music Michael Jackson died at the age of 50 years; he was a star of international pop music.
   About the cinema, the Harry Potter films were very successful and also the saga of Lord of the Rings. For American cinema, this is a decade marked by the stars  like: George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Angelina Jolie, etc.

   There was a lot of change with regard to the fashion, it was the era of leggins, low waist pants, long sweaters, pointed shoes and french manicure.
In the field of digital electronics, Microsoft born and Windows spread all over the world.
The progress has been considerable: mobile phones, digital cameras and MP3 players, email and social network were affordable to everyone.

Dear colleagues, in my opinion  Dr Who isn't an alien because if he was an alien he wouldn't have saved a human creature and he wouldn't have fallen in love with a girl. At the same time, Dr Who can't be a ghost because if he was a ghost he wouldn't have emploied force for fighting a monster. So I think Dr Who is a sort of divinity that lives in the sky and in the sea.He dominates all the creatures of the sky and of the sea.  He is a good divinity and he uses his force only for a good purpose of the world. In any case I think your answers are very interesting.

GOTCHA !

GOTCHA! A FUNNY HORROR STORY

It was a dark and stormy night and it was midnight.
A silly and invisible ghost was flowing over the hills screaming " help me! let me in!"
The wind was blowing when the ghost stopped his flowing because of a hire and hire scream was heard.
An old mad appeard in front of him and he ha completely covered in blood.
The ghost become visible because of his fear.
In fact, he got as white as a sheet.
The ghost shouted: " you silly nasty man! what the hell are you doing here? are you trying to frightened me to death? go away! i'm the one who is supposed to scared people"
Bloody man replyed: " are you kidding me? is this supposed to be funny? who am I? do you think I'm having a spa treatment with all of this blood?"
while he was speaking, the bloody mad took his mask and cloak off and wife's ghost appeard under the costume.
"GOTCHA" She cried" I know you're trying to cheat me with the woman in the house on the hill. I've been follwing you since this morning! I'll ask for the divorce and I'll skin you alive"
The ghost fainted

Dear Colleagues,
I will try to make some hypotheses about the Doctor in the story we read last lesson.
If he were an alien, he wouldn't have a human being shape, I think he would look like a green shapeless monster. If he were a zoombie, he would be more frightful and his appeareance would sure decay.
If he were a ghost, he would  be seen by the man by the river, and he would also suddenly disappear, as he did. So, at the end, I think he was a ghost of a dead doctor: according to me, the Doctor is the ghost of a man in  ancient time who struggled against Goblins, Vampires or witches and whose spirit floats every moonlight night to save people from Monsters attacks In fact he had a crazy look in his eyes and he was wearing unusual clothes…he was maybe out of time, a soldiers of darkness.

Dear colleagues  if I'm not mistaken for tomorrow we have to discuss what we would do or how we would be if we were aliens, isn't it?
In this case, I though this idea: If I were an alien and I had two extra arms, I could do what I can't do every day.
How do you think about this idea?

Wife of
 Bath
INTERVIEW CONTEST
TASK: You are a very lucky journalist: you have just had the chance of your life! You can use a time machine to go back to the Middle Ages  and  interview an interesting woman  whose personality has  always intrigued you : Chaucer’s Wife  of Bath.  Here you can find a short introduction to the woman but don’t forget that you are expected to start your interview only after having carried out some research about the protagonist of the article. Here are some websites you can  search for information: they should help you gather what you need for your article.

...........................................................………………………………………………………………………..
By the time she left on pilgrimage for Canterbury the wife of Bath had already had 5 husbands, including one, Johnny, the fifth, who was much younger than her.
As concerning her previous life we don’t know anything else than what Chaucer himself tells us in the Prologue: beside being plump, determined, self-assured and strong willed she was surely wealthy and endowed with a strong sexual drive, as we may infer from  the author’s open hints at her physical aspect as well as at her personality.
Whoever has some knowledge of the Middle Ages, an age when the women’s role had to undergo harsh  restrictions, however, will be  puzzled by this woman’s unconventional character.  Many questions come to our mind: how could she possibly have become so rich and autonomous? How come she, a woman,  had managed to climb the social ladder? Where had she learned her trade?
In order to find out about this and much more, ask her directly: this is your unique chance to get first hand information straight from the source. You will then publish your scoop on the blog: you will surely  get visibility online and, who knows, you might even end up winning the Pulitzer Prize!!!

HOMEWORK

here's our homework " write a formal letter"
Roberta, Simona, Paola T

Dear Sir or Madam,
we are three mothers and we rapresent a group called "our children free to play in open air".
we are writing you because we totally disagree with your project: build a motorway in our town instead of a skateboard park.
in this park, our childrend can freely play and the trees around the park give us clean air.
in addition to this, a motorway will cause a lot of pollution, dangerous  for our health.
beside this, a motorway can be unsafe for all citizens.
we are planning a big protest in front of the city all and we will finally invite people in the neighbourhood to sign up for a petition.
in addition to this, we are going to share our petition in the social networks.
in the end, we invite you to retire our project.
wait for your kind reply,
regards
